I received an email on Sunday, May 1st, 2022 that indicating that Gmail will quit working with programs such as Outlook and Thunderbird on May 30th, 2022. Here’s an excerpt from that email for you to judge for yourself.
To help keep your account secure, Google will no longer support the use of third-party apps or devices which may ask you to sign in to your Google Account using only your username and password. Instead, you’ll need to sign in using Sign in with Google or other more secure technologies, like OAuth2.0.
What do you need to do?
Email software, like Outlook 2016 or earlier, has less secure access to your Gmail. Switch to Outlook 2019 or newer, or any other email software where you can sign in using Sign in with Google.
The bottom line is this. If you use Gmail and have Outlook 2016 or earlier, we need to upgrade your Outlook. If you have Outlook 2019 or newer, we will need to make some adjustments to make it work with Gmail. If you have Thunderbird, we will need to make some adjustments to make it work with Gmail. Please feel free to contact me directly at (270) 314-5681 with any questions or concerns.
