Threats are just like infections on the human body. Sometimes they are like getting a splinter. We simply remove the splinter and apply some Neosporin and you’re good to go. Other infections are more deeply rooted into your operating system, and require a lot more effort to remove them.

Are we standing on solid ground?

When we are presented with a computer that is suspected to be infected, the first thing we do is test the hard drive. Why? We believe that it would be unethical for us to perform the simplest of tasks on your computer if there were reason to believe that a critical component of your computer were going to fail in the near future anyway. In addition to testing your hard drive we test your memory, Random Access Memory (RAM), and, in most cases, make a visual inspection of your motherboard. If any of these things are 'out of whack', it’s best that you know about it up front as it will greatly effect your decision next steps. We are the onlyservice in this area that do this diagnostics at absolutely no cost to you.

A Full Threat Scan

After we have determined that we are standing on solid ground, the question becomes 'What type of threat are we confronting?' so we perform a full threat scan both within the Windows operating system, and outside the operating system. Some threats are designed to 'hide' behind areas of the operating system while it is running. Therefore, a full threat scan when Windows is not running typically reveals hidden threats that were previously undetected. We are the only service in this area that will perform a full threat scan at absolutely no cost to you.

Plan Of Attack

Once the scans have completed, the nature of the infection is revealed. Some threats can be easily removed, like a splinter. Other threats attach themselves to critical components of your operating system, to where tampering with them actually make things worse. Either way, before we do anything that will cost you a dime, we contact you and clearly explain your options with a free estimate. Even if you were to choose to do nothing, at this point you still do not owe us a dime.

What happens to your stuff?

Should you choose to move forward with our recommendation, know that you important data is kept safe. We utilize a unique 'Secure Server' that is best thought of as a bank vault. Metaphorically, we create a lock box within the vault that has your name on it. All of your important data, such as your pictures, music, documents and video’s are stored within this vault as we work on your computer. As your data in transferred, it is meticulously scanned for treats. When we are done, we put your data back where we found it on your clean computer, safe and sound.

Let's Keep You Safe!

We want you to be protected. We’ll install and properly configure two programs that will help keep you safe. Windows Defender is a free anti-virus / anti-spyware program that does everything on its own. Without you telling it to anything, it will update itself with the latest virus definitions, every day. It’s also constantly monitoring what’s going on in your operating system, ready to leap into action whenever something dangerous is about to happen.

While we previously utilized a program entitled “Avast”, we believe that recent improvements with Windows Defender offers the same if not better protection. Additionally, we found that Avast’s prompts to purchase additional software had become too intrusive and crossed the line. Windows Defender will not prompt you to make a purchase.

The second program is called Malwarebytes, worth it’s weight in gold. When used regularly the free version is an excellent second line of defense detecting and removing malicious software (called “malware”) and other advanced threats. The premium version stops malware in real time, before it can be a danger to your computer. Additionally, the premium version prevents access to and from known malicious websites. Think of the premium version as a good parent, preventing you from going somewhere harmful, not just suggesting you should not.

We’ll install and properly configure both of these programs that we have thoroughly tested to help keep your computer safe.

What Else Might You Need?

When we remove threats from your computer, we install and properly configure programs that we have thoroughly tested and sincerely believe you will find useful.

Libre Office: Unless you have presented a computer that we can extract a valid product key for Microsoft Office from, we will install and properly configure Libre Office, which is the free equivalent to Microsoft Office. Libre Office will open, edit and save documents, spreadsheets and presentations in Microsoft format. Except it’s free. Many of our college students prefer Libre Office over Microsoft Office for its functionality.
